A huge THANK YOU to everyone who was able to come and help us celebrate! You made this celebration extra special!
It's official! The kids feel it and I can definitely feel (that they) feel it! Ha! The sunshine is doing us all a whole lot of good! :) It is difficult to believe that we are coming up on the end of the school year and with less than 5 full weeks to go, I start to feel that urge to put on the brakes. Saying good-bye to these kids is not going to be easy. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves...there's still a lot to do and so much left to celebrate! What follows in this post is a little catch-up. Apparently, the entire month of April (and then some) completely got away from me. I apologize for that but I do appreciate keeping in touch with so many of you via our classroom chats and over email! So, here's a snapshop of what's been going on and a bit of what's to come! Enjoy these gorgeous days! mystery readers...thank you!!LiteracyMuch of the work we have been doing in reading and writing workshop has become integrated. We spent weeks reading, researching and note taking about countries and cultures around the world. We are in the process of publishing our informational books and will celebrate by presenting a lapbook of information about each country. In reader's workshop, we have shifted our focus now to biographies. Our classroom is brimming with amazing chapter and picture books about a wide variety of incredible people! We have learned so much more about some who are familiar to us and we have also discovered some new stories of inspiration and greatness! Here are just a few of our favorites! candy electionsTake a moment to ask your child about our election process: chocolate vs. chewy! We are currently in the primary election and are choosing which candidate to endorse. We will give some endorsement speeches next week and vote to chose the one candidate for each party. It has been a fun way to learn about this election process. fun to come...The end of the year brings many fun events and celebrations. Please be on the lookout for those dates and times. Our school Hot Dog Hustle is this coming Thursday. Picnics in the park are currently being planned as well. I will let you know more as soon as the dates and times are set!
Have a wonderful weekend and happy Mother's Day! We've been delighting in reading and writing all week! From mystery readers to hallway read-ins to author visits! Here is a picture of Rick Chrustowski who came to talk with us about being an author. He had wonderful ideas and insights to share! The kids learned that writing takes a very long time and goes through countless revisions. There was a message of perserverence, determination and hard work! You can learn more about him here: http://www.rickchrustowski.com/
